Simon Sinek: inspirational leadership

This is a great TED talk published about inspiring leadership. Why is it that organisations do what they do? And why is that some perform better than others, are more attractive to customers or deliver the “emotion” that someone is after? It’s not by accident. It’s thought through! It is not a coincidence that one company inspires you to take action, and another doesn’t.

People performance: inside Australia’s organisations

This study done by CareerOne and Kelly Services clearly shows the need for attention from Australian organisations into their people’s performance levels. I find this report interesting because it is one of the few researches done within the Australian Market . There is room for quality performance work, such as provided by CBI Executive Performance!http://news.mktg.net.au/microsite/c1/PeoplePerformance/People%20Performance%20Inside%20Australia%27s%20Organisations.pdf

Employee satisfaction crisis in U.S.

This aHarvard Business School faculty Researchrticle has some great insights into the changing dynamics in the workplace AGFC (after GFC).

Thanks again Harvard Business School for providing high quality discussion points.

Really, I think I just love anything that reminds us that the only sustainable future for business requires a learning culture.

A workforce of learners VS a workforce of workers.

The importance of reassuring communication from leaders and an inspiring future to work from is ringing in my ears.

I especially apprectiate “Mark Isaac pointed out that “Succession plans, open communication, and knowing that the company cares, create a learning environment.”

What every GM and HR manager needs to know about KPI delivery

Increase your organisation's profitiablity...

It’s the perennial question of every organisation. When well-meaning and hard working managers fail to meet their KPIs, why? More importantly, what can be done about it?

Ultimately, KPI delivery is the beginning, middle and end (happy or gruesome) of the story called business.  The challenges businesses face in delivering on their strategy and targets it faces is varied and rarely linear.
And KPI delivery is definitely not as simple as, “get someone with the right qualifications, tell them what to do, provide occasional feedback and wait for it to all work out”.
And don’t think solving the problem is as simple as dangling a big performance bonus, lavishing praise or severely reprimanding underperformance.

Inside every organisation, regardless of size— from small to large and private to public — there are underlying levels of behaviours and thinking styles that drive the overall performance of the organisation.
For the whole machine to operate effectively these drivers must be aligned.

Herein lies the challenge and the solution.

In any given organisation there are countless dynamics at play between individuals and the business, individuals and co-workers, and individuals and the outside world.
Just because an employee knows the “right way” to do something there’s no guarantee of satisfactory performance.

Throw into the mix a changing, dynamic market place and rapidly changing ways of doing business and suddenly there is a very complicated mix of competing factors impacting on these once simple things called KPIs.

In reality, an organisation must be hungry to perform to consider overhauling the performance of their individuals. Approach must be determined by taking into account your individual business needs, your high potential people, and perhaps individuals who have performed well in the past but have not adapted well to change.

That’s why we recommend calling CBI Executive Performance to explore how the our Executive Performance service may translate into practice for your business.

Business Performance Coach – Katrina Page

Born and raised on the Western Darling Downs, Katrina grew up with a real appreciation for rural Australia and the unique challenges that rural business and their owners face. Having been raised in the family business, from a young age, Katrina has an instinctive understating of the fundamental principles that underpin a successful business.

After marrying locally, Katrina spent a number of years on a cattle grazing property raising her 2 children. With her passion for business and being with people, from the farm, Katrina built Australia’s most successful Bessemer business – demonstrating a commitment to people, great relationships and a willingness to do the hard yards.

Katrina’s first venture into traditional small business came about when, an opportunity presented itself for her and her husband Stephen to purchase a motel in the rural community of St.George. Setting out with a 5 year plan that was accomplished in less than 18 months, Katrina and Stephen were once again on the lookout for a new adventure – not before doubling the turnover and adding considerably to the Motel’s asset value upon sale.

After returning to Toowoomba in 2005 Katrina once again extended her search for a business to develop. This time turning her focus to retail sales of manufactured goods. During the 4 year period to date, Katrina focused her attention and talents on the transformation of Westbrook Trailers.

After reengineering the sales processes, renegotiation of supplier relationships, altering Cashflow management practices, redefining the marketing plan, team skills development and systemising the administrative function, Westbrook Trailers is today unrecognisable as well as a real demonstration of what’s possible in business. With sales up 120% in a stagnant market, Katrina has directed a business that has gradually taken over as market leader.
